Imphal, June 05 2011: The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union and Editors of local dailies held a meeting this afternoon with AMWJU president A Mobi in the chair.

The meeting deliberated on the guidelines of the Press Council of India (PCI) with regard to press releases/handouts issued by different organisations including insurgent groups.

The meeting noted that many press releases/handouts issued by different organisations including UG groups have statements and contents, publication of which would be contradictory or violation of the PCI guidelines.

The meeting also discussed the pressure exerted by different organisations on media houses to publish their press releases/handouts.

After discussing the issue minutely, the meeting resolved not to publish press releases/handouts which are against the PCI guidelines.

AMWJU also appealed to all concerned not to issue press statements which do not conform to PCI guidelines.
