Imphal, May 05 2018:
The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M) has dubbed Athuan Abonmai, president of Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) a "black sheep" of Liangmai community.
The LNC-M also said that Athuan Abonmai has "conveniently defiled the decision of 'Liangmai People Convention at Konsaram - 2015' for his vested interest" .
In a statement issued today, the LNC-M said, "One Athuan Abonmai, claiming to be the president of Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN), who by birth is a Liangmai from Machenglong village under Tamei sub-division is attempting to create confusion to the public under the aegis of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland), the so called social organization of Zeliangrong from which the Liangmai tribe had disassociated, by issuing desperate statements in public" .
According to the Liangmai body, the LNC-M, "the apex body of Liangmai tribe in Manipur" had never endorsed or recommended Athuan Abonmai to represent Liangmai people in any organization.
"He's being used as a tool to challenge the popular decision of Liangmai people by some power mongers," the LNC-M alleged.
According to the statement, the utterances of Athuan Abonmai is nothing "but his individual opinion and has no relevance in the Liangmai tribe" .
The LNC-M stated that it was amused by the statement of "some frustrated organization" through' various media houses that they have consulted Zeliangrong people to challenge-the glorified March 23, 2018 decision of "Tatar Hoho" in recognizing Zeme, Liangmai and Rongmei as separate tribes.
"Once for all, LNC-M would like to clarify that Liangmai people have nothing to do with their decision or activities.
These organizations reeling under money power and vested political interests have time and again meddled with the identity issues of the tribes concerned," the LNC-M stated.
It said, "The question is how long these few people with ulterior political motives will steer the aspirations of the community for their own ends" .
The LNC-M added, "It must be noted that collective decision of the people will not be put out by such ranting in the media from time to time" .
