Free eye check-up camp held

Under the National Programme for Control of Blindness, District Blindness Control Society, Thoubal, Lions Club of Thoubal and Shija Hospitals and Research Institute jointly organised a free eye check-up camp at Lilong PHC today.
Out of the 160 persons, who were examined in the camp, 45 persons were referred to SHRI Hospitals for free eye surgery after detection of refractive error.
SHRI Eye Specialist Dr Sachindra Laishram, Lions Clubs Region-XII Chairperson Dr Ch Renubala and staff of DBCS Thoubal were present at the camp.
DBCS Thoubal Programme Manager Dr Ksh Memcha said that DBCS has been conducting similar eye camps from 1995 .
So far, 42 camps including three mega camps till February this year, she said and added that 775 persons have been detected with cataract case, out of which 458 persons have been benefitted with free cataract operation.
133 have been prpovided free power spectacles, she said and added that 158 students have been detected of refractive error among 1387 students who have been checked up by DBCS Thoubal so far.
She further said that DBCS Thoubal is aimed at conducting 500 cataract operations this year, she added.
She further said that another free eye check-up camp would be conducted at Hiyanglam on March 22 .
