Imphal, November 04 2019:
CPI Manipur State Council has urged the Central Government to specify a specific date at the earliest to make good on its assurance to consult stakeholders regarding the Naga peace accord.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan BT Road today, CPI National Executive Member Dr M Nara said that despite assurance by Central leaders that the stakeholders of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will be consulted before the final signing of the Naga peace accord, the details of the resolutions or agreement have not been made public till date.
News and reports about the October 31 talks between GoI and NSCN (IM) are doing the rounds in news media and there are also many reports that mention formation of Naga Autonomous Council and Bicameral Naga Body etc.
Even NSCN (IM) leader Th Muivah expressed satisfaction after the talks.
However, on the other hand, the people are still being kept in the dark about the agreement and its details and the Centre has not given any proper reply to the people till date.
The assurance to meet the stakeholders has not materialise yet as well, Nara lamented, adding that even though delegates of several political parties went to Delhi and met some Central leaders, they failed to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As such, considering the uncertain and dire condition the State is in currently, all the political parties should not rest and let their guard down, he said.
He continued that it will not be right for the State Government to sit idle based on the assurance given by the Central leaders and asked if the State Government and its leaders will still stay silent if the Centre fails to consult the stakeholders.
Conveying that it is the duty of all the political parties to protect the State, Dr Nara stressed on the importance of pressuring the Centre to specify a time or period when it will consult the stakeholders instead of just sitting and waiting to be invited.
He further informed that CPI Manipur State Council will convene a public meeting, which will also be participated by the party National Secretary Dr Raja, at the earliest in view of the prevailing situation in the State.
On the other hand, he also brushed aside the clarification made by the State Government regarding the large number of paramilitary forces being sent into the State and reasoned that CPI, MSC views the developing situation as similar to a preparation to subdue any form of uprising by the people.
CPI, MSC State secretary L Sotinkumar and assistant secretary Surchand and other veteran members were also present at the press meet.
