Imphal, September 03 2014:
The Government of India has its own plan to deploy central paramilitary forces along highways leading to Manipur and provide security escorts to goods carriers so that there is uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the State, stated Chief Minister O Ibobi during a security meeting held today.
Soon after arriving from Delhi, Ibobi convened a security meeting with the Cabinet Ministers, DGP, Principal Secretary (Home) and IGPs this evening and discussed about the UNC's bandh which starts tomorrow.
The Chief Minister also narrated about his meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, conveyed a source.
"The Government of India is supportive of the State Government's stance but they are quite concerned about the highway bandh as it would cause immense misery to common people", Ibobi said.
The meeting also discussed about another security contingency plan with regard to the UNC's bandh which can ensure incessant supply of essential commodities.
The Chief Minister would hold another meeting with Army and Assam Rifles officers tomorrow.
As for the 144 CrPC clamped at Ukhrul town, it would remain there until the situation returns to normal.
Commandos deployed at Ukhrul have been deactivated for the time being as Assam Rifles have been requisitioned to control the security situation at Ukhrul town, added the source.
