Imphal, August 03 2024:
Interview for recruitment of teachers of Dhanamanjuri University's Departments of Botany and Physics must not be held until the enquiry committee submits its report publicly, said six student bodies today.
The student bodies include Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kang-leipak Students' Association (KSA), Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) and Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS) .
Speaking to reporters at the AIMS office at Kwa-keithel, DESAM president Mayengbam Somorjit said a notification for recruitment of 88 Assistant Professors of Dhanamanjuri University was issued on December 19, 2020 .
While the recruitment process was stalled for a long time, the results of the recruitment were declared on July 18 but the Departments of Botany and Physics were left out raising suspicion of irregularities, he said.
Moreover, when the notification was issued for recruitment of 88 Assistant Professors only, the number of posts was increased "unannounced" by 60 more in the results, he added.
The six student bodies then urged the authorities for an enquiry and as a result, a syndicate meeting of the varsity was held on July 26 and an enquiry committee was set up for investigation, Somorjit said.
While the enquiry committee was supposed to submit its findings by August 1, it has not yet submitted the report, he added.
When the committee's report is pending, August 5 has been fixed for conducting interviews for recruit- ment of Assistant Professors for the Departments of Botany and Physics.
This is against the interest of the student community and the people, Somorjit said.
He said the enquiry committee was set up to inves- tigate possible irregularities in the recruitment process and the conduct of the varsity.
Holding the interview before the committee's inves- tigation is completed is unacceptable and it defeats the purpose of setting up the committee.
The student bodies see it as an attempt by the Government and the authorities concerned to conceal its misconduct, he added.
Somorjit said the DMU authorities, including the then Vice Chancellor and the current Registrar must be investigated thoroughly, and the issues surrounding the university shouldn't be ignored and sidelined.
He said the interviews for the Department of Botany and Department of Physics must not be held before the enquiry committee submits its report publicly.
