TYCM demands functional MTDC

Imphal, July 03 2013: Tribal Youth Council, Manipur (TYCM) has drawn the attention of the State Govt towards ensuring proper functioning of Manipur Tribal Development Corporation (MTDC), which is the lone government undertaking tribals/hills corporation.

The present government has made the Hill Areas Committee and different units/departments like MTDC to exist just for name sake.

Against the Cabinet decision taken on 29th April, 2009 and the state government vide order No.5/6/2006-FC (Pt.-I) dated 30th April, 2009 which approved continuance of MTDC's functioning as an executing agency for both state and central government works in hill areas, the State Government has been giving favour to other agencies by superseding authority of MTDC, TYCM alleged in a statement.

Meanwhile, in a memorandum submitted to Dr Chaltonlien Amo, Chairman of Hill Areas Committee, TYCM has demanded to take the view of HAC in connection with the 5 years and Annual Plans as mandated in the paragraph 6 of the Manipur Legislative Assembly (Hill Areas Committee) order, 1972 .
