Imphal, August 02 2024:
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has urged the Union Government and the Minister concerned to facilitate speedy completion of the National Sports University at Koutruk in Imphal West during today's Parliament session.
During the Zero Hour of the Rajya Sabha, the RS MP pointed to the slow progress in the construction of the NSU.
The Central Government resolved to establish a world-class sports university in Manipur in recognition of the stellar role the State has played in the realm of games and sports, he said.
Stating that NSU will be the first sports university of its kind in the entire country, the MP went on to add that Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the NSU Bill in 2017, which was then passed in 2018 to become an Act.
However, the construction of this major University and other related works are progressing at a very slow pace, the RS MP informed the House.
In consideration of the sportspersons around the country, he urged the Union Government and the relevant Minister to hasten the construction of the NSU and ensure that it becomes operational as soon as possible.
