Crime graph on the rise in Nagaland

Dimapur, June 02 2011:
In recent time Nagaland has been witnessing serious criminal activities that include the kidnapping and the subsequent killing of a businessman and a life attempt on a retired bureaucrat.
There have also been cases of raped-and-murdered in Nagaland recently.
On May 27, a retired bureaucrat identified as one Imtila Jamir was fired at by armed persons in Kohima.
One of the assailants has been reportedly identified as one Worshim.
Meanwhile, large number of people had carried out a protest rally in the Nagaland capital Kohima on Wednesday against the May 27 incident.
The protestors hailing from various organisations said that simply condemning such crime through the media would not be affective.
They said more practical steps should be taken up by the authorities without wasting time.
Prior to this incident, all the commercial activities in Dimapur had to be shut down prompted by the killing of a prominent businessman by armed cadres for ransom.
The body of Md Israr was found shot dead early morning of May 12 at 7th Mile in Dimapur, near Essar Petrol Pump after he was abducted two days before for ransom.
In the May 12 incident connection, one NSCN-IM 'major' identified as one Rasu was arrested by Dimapur police.
Protesting against the murder, there was lightning closure of all the shops in the Nagaland commercial hub Dimapur soon after the news of the murder began to spread.
The Dimapur business community had given a three day ultimatum for arrest of the three other accused.
The procession which began from the residence of the victim at Walford area, near Bethesda HSS marched through Old over bridge to City Tower and to the office of the SP and then finally to the final cremation ground at the Muslim burial ground.
Last month, a semi-naked body of a girl was recovered from a river in Dimapur.
The victim was allegedly kidnapped and raped before she was murdered.
There have also been cases of attempted rape on minors and in protest against the incidents certain civil organisations had held protest rallies.
