Imphal, February 02 2014:
A heart attack centre which would remain open round the clock every day was opened today at Sky Hospital and Research Centre.
Speaking at the opening function held at Hotel Nirmala, Sky Hospital chairman Dr L Shyamkishore said that heart attack cases have been multiplying in Manipur since the past two decades.
Taking serious note of this fact, Sky Hospital has opened a heart attack centre which would remain open round the clock to provide medical service and necessary treatment to all health problems related with heart.
He further advised to start treatment within two years if one suspects he/she has suffered heart attack.
At least three patients who have suffered heart attack are admitted every week in Sky Hospital alone.
He attributed the rising cases of heart attacks to growing cases of diabetes infection, high blood pressure, consumption of foods having high cholesterol contents, increased level of smoking, undue weight gain and stress.
Sudden pain in chest, momentary lost of consciousness, breathing difficulty, restlessness, feeling of throwing up etc are some of symptoms of impending heart attack.
If one feels these symptoms, he/she should go for ECG test within two hours, Dr Shyamkishore said.
Heart attack centre opened today for the first time in Manipur is in accordance to the American Heart Association and British guidelines.
Principal Secretary (Health) Dr Suhel Akhtar and Imphal West DC K Radhakumar were also present at the function as presidium members.
