Imphal, December 01 2024:
Womenfolk of Langthabal staged a sit-in in protest with a demand to not arrest any of the Arambai Tenggol members today.
Organised by Langthabal Apunba Meira Paibi at Langthabal, the protesters held placards with slogans against the lodging of a case against Korounganba Khuman by the NIA.
"The charges being levelled against Korounganba are unacceptable to the mothers" read the banner at the site of the protest in Manipuri.
One of the protesters said that Arambai Tenggol and village volunteers wouldn't have come out had the Centre and the State Government stopped the onslaught of the Kukis against the Meetei at the beginning of the crisis.
Saying that more Meeteis may have died if not for the village volunteers and Arambai Tenggol, she said that the Government should never arrest those who have been defending Meetei villages by throwing unfounded charges against them.
Further stating that they will stand firmly against all attempts to arrest Korounganba or any other village volunteers, she said that the NIA should see Meeteis as fellow Indians.
The State Government must ensure the safety of the village volunteers, she demanded.
Similar protests were also staged against the NIA registering cases against Korounganba at Yaingangpokpi, Sabungkhok, Seijang and Leimakhong today.
Womenfolk at all the sites of the protest demanded that the charges against Korounganba be withdrawn.
