State observes World AIDS Day

The World AIDS Day 2023 was observed at the State level at the DIPR auditorium at Keishampat Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal West under the theme "Let Communities Lead" .
Speaking as the chief guest at the observation, Information & Public Relations (IPR) Minister Dr S Ranjan Singh said that the fight against HIV/AIDS is not yet over.
The issue of HIV/AIDS was urban centric during olden days but it has changed during the past few years.
Rural areas have also been affected these days by this social menace, he added.
Dr S Ranjan said that an aggressive approach is required to fight against drugs.
The Government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh launched War Against Drugs.
Cooperation by the public, NGOs and community participation is necessary to control the issue.
Sharing views and public interaction on HIV/AIDS would also help in addressing the issue, he said.
Ranjan asserted that the Government has taken a firm stand to work for the welfare of the people.
The World AIDS Day observance is organized at a low scale this year due to the present situation.
If the community leads at the forefront in the fight against HIV/AIDS, it would have significant impacts, he stated.
Speaking as president, Commissioner Health & FW and president MACS, PK Jha said that the role of media is very important to spread awareness on HIV/AIDS.
Community participation and the role of NGOs are also equally important.
He also appealed to all to join the campaign on eradication of HIV/AIDS.
Project Director, Manipur AIDS Control Society, Haobam Rosita Devi attended the occasion as guest of honour.
Officials and staff of MACS, representatives from NGOs, community workers and others also attended the occasion.
