A gun battle reportedly broke out last night at Kokitok area near Sajik Tampak under Chakpikarong police station in Chandel district between Assam Rifles troops and some militants.
Troops of 35 AR posted at Sajik Tampak were patrolling on foot when some militants attacked them using sophisticated weapons.
The AR troops retaliated resulting in a gun fight which lasted for about 10 minutes.
However, it cannot be ascertained whether there was any casualty on either side.
Meanwhile, the proscribed RPF has claimed that it was the PLA's 252 mobile battalion which attacked troops of 35 Assam Rifles near Khumulen village, Sajik Tampak in Chandel district at about 8 pm yesterday.
The attack was launched to subvert extensive poppy plantation in the interior areas of Sajik Tampak allegedly at the behest of 35 Assam Rifles, said a press release issued by the outfit's department of publicity chief Taohangsu Heiremcha.
It further claimed that the military offensive inflicted heavy casualty among Assam Rifles troops.
PLA cadres who carried out the attack have returned to their camps safe and sound.
