Imphal, August 31 2012:
While alleging misused of fund for the construction of Chingai-Tusom via Challou road under PMGSY-2005 (package No 901 and 908), the New Tusom Students' Union, Chingai Students' Union, and AS Shimthar, social worker from Challou village in Ukhrul district have urged the Governor to look into the matter of the incomplete construction of road under PMGSY.
An appeal to the Governor by the student bodies and the social worker pointed out that a stretch of 8 kilometre between Challou and Tusom along the said road has remained incomplete.
It further said that the bailey bridge constructed across the Challou River by the Assam Rifles has not been used by the neighbouring villages as no road is laid till the bridge.
The appeal letter also mentioned that despite the plea made to the State Government by the Educated Unemployed Union Ukhrul District, Manipur to conduct a spot enquiry to the road, the authority turned a dead ear to the plea.
At this juncture, the president of NRSU publicised a misleading statement that construction of the said road had been completed, the bodies pointed out while adding that people of the Myanmar bordering area of the district are facing many hardships.
Meanwhile, the New Tusom Students' Union has taken strong exception to the misleading statement made by Shangreingam Vashum on this paper stating that the road construction has been completed.
A statement of the NTSU asked Vashum to clarify which headman had certified the completion of the road while also asking the executives of NRSU whether the statement was made by the president on personal interest or was it the voice of the executives.
