Imphal, August 31 2011:
The spirit of Id came alive at Lilong with 9 Sector Assam Rifles and 28 Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(S) celebrating the day with Muslims of the region.
More than 300 people witnessed the auspicious celebration to exchange Id greetings with a fabulous feast.
Attended by people from different faiths, all those who turned up said that they had come together to celebrate what they have in common rather than what divides them.
"We've been given love at this place and we want to return in kind" quoted the local residents.
Brig Navneet Kumar, Commander of 9 Sector Assam Rifles, greeted the residents on the occasion.
In his address, he said 'it is the time of self-reflection and focusing on values that Muslims and people of all faiths share.
This is a time for forgiveness and brotherhood.
Historically, it was the prophet Muhammad who asked his followers, as a sign of respect to the Allah, to spend the month of Ramadan fasting and praying, with festive celebrations to mark its end.
In the spirit of Idu'l Fitr, God and his greatness are acknowledged; his blessings for humanity are thanked.
Idu'l-Fitr celebrates the purification achieved by a month of sunrise-to-sunset fasting, one of the five pillars of Islam, and is marked by several days of festivities'.
