Imphal, February 28 2017:
An unprecedented crowd gathered at Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal East district to witness an election rally addressed by Rahul Gandhi, vice-president of All India Congress Committee (AICC) today.
Since early morning, a large number of Indian National Congress (INC) supporters converged and half space of the venue was already occupied hours before the AICC vice-president landed at Imphal Tulihal Airport.
All the roads leading to the venue were jammed due to the heavy movement of vehicles which were seen transporting INC supporters from every nook and corner of the State.

Some INC candidates of the ensuing State Assembly election along with their supporters were seen coming on foot towards the venue, holding flag and banner of the party. Buses and other passenger vehicles transporting the party supporters were stopped at Keishampat, Thumbuthong, Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak and Minuthong.
Security personnel faced a hard time in controlling the large crowd and making way for the vehicles.
SPG guards of Rahul Gandhi kept a tight vigil on the venue and its nearby buildings and high towers during the election rally.
People coming to take part in the rally were thoroughly checked by the security personnel deployed at different entrances to the venue.
Only VVIPs, Congress leaders and candidates of the coming election were allowed to enter the venue through its western gate.
Three entrance gates on the southern side of the venue were opened for the people.
Gutkha, Khaini, Pan and other eatable items were not allowed inside the venue.
Belongings of the people were checked by using metal detectors and scanners.
Due to the hustle at the entrance to the venue, some women who came to have a glance of Rahul Gandhi fainted.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
As the venue was already occupied before the arrival of the AICC vice-president, many supporters of the party remained outside.
When he arrived at the venue in his motorcade, the huge crowd rose to their feet and welcomed him by chanting slogans of the party.
After addressing the election rally wherein he sought vote for INC for the forthcoming election, Rahul Gandhi's motorcade was forced to take an alternate route towards the airport for return due to the massive gathering of people at Palace Compound.
State police, CRPF and AR personnel were deployed along the route of the motorcade.
