Irate locals torch abductors' houses

Imphal, January 31 2017: Enraged locals of Tumukhong, Moirangpurel and its surrounding villages reportedly torched two houses of individuals involved in the abduction of three workers and killing two of them in an alleged cross firing.

According to information culled from the spot, the houses were set on fire one after another by the locals including tribals today at around 9 am.

The houses belong to Hagin Khongsai s/o Lhunkam of Kamu village and Doukhopao Khongsai s/o (L) Thongkam of Chaningpokpi.

The locals also ransacked another two houses belonging to Helal Vaiphei s/o Chialthang of Molkon village and Nehkam Khongsai s/o Otsei of Molnom village.

The locals charged that Hagin Khongsai, Doukhopao Khongsai, Helal Vaiphei and Nehkam Khongsai are involved in the abduction of the three workers.

The workers identified as Laishram Tompok, Laishram Thoi and Khumujam Bijen were abducted from Itham along Thoubal River on January 26 .

Later, a public meeting was held at Itham Community Hall wherein village chiefs and leaders attended.

The meeting resolved to ostracise the four persons along with their family members from their villages forever.

Along with deciding to work together to thwart unwanted incidents and restore peace in the areas, the meeting demanded the State Government to pay compensation to the families of the deceased.

Mention may be made that Laishram Tompok and Laishram Thoi were killed in an alleged firing between KNA cadres and the abductors at Moulsohoi village under Litan police station, Ukhrul district on January 28 .

Luckily, Khumujam Bijen escaped unhurt in the firing and he was rescued by KNA cadres.
