The joint organising committee of United Committee Manipur (UCM), All Manipur United Clubs Organization (AMUCO) and Committee on Civil Society, Kangleipak (CCSK) has urged Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) and All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) to call off its proposed indefinite National Highways blockade in view of the mass rally for common future to be taken out on February 6 .
Speaking to reporters at UCM office, Lamphelpat, organising committee convenor Elangbam Johnson said that even as the committee has been campaigning for widespread participation by the people of different communities of the State in the mass rally, KSO and ANSAM suddenly announced an indefinite blockade.
On behalf of UCM, AMUCO and CCSK, Johnson urged the two student bodies to call off the blockade contending that the rally intends to secure the common future of all the indigenous people who have been residing together in the State since time immemorial.
He also urged all other CSOs and organisations not to impose any kind of bandh, general strike and blockade on February 6 .
Johnson further appealed to all sections of people including Government employees, political leaders, Ministers and MLAs to take part in the mass rally.
He also urged the leaders of different political parties to ask all their workers and volunteers to participate the rally.
Saying that a huge number of people would turn up for the rally, Johnson said that transport agencies alone would not be able to provide transportations to all the participants.
As such, he urged the private vehicle owners to join the transport agencies in transporting people from different parts of the State.
He also urged the Government and private hospitals to provide medical assistance and ambulances on the day.
