People of Kanglatongbi have strongly condemned the rape of a woman at Gandhi Chowk area of Delhi on December 29 .
Regarding the incident, a joint meeting of Kanglatongbi Gram Panchayat, All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union, Vijaynagar Women Development Council, GNYS, GJYC, ARCGYC and other organisations was held at Kanglatongbi community hall with Kanglatongbi GP Pradhan Shiva Kumar Basnet in the chair today, said a statement.
The meeting strongly condemned Bhanu of Kanglatongbi for her alleged involvement in the rape case.
It was resolved to clarify to the media that Bhanu's name was wrongly published as Priya Thapa.
She was married to a man from Thangmeiband around 16 years back and the couple has two children, a speaker said.
After the death of the man, she eloped with another man from Kanglatongbi, and he too died after they had a child, he added.
Bhanu is not a resident of Kanglatongbi though she sometimes visits the area, he clarified.
, It was also resolved in the meeting to press the authority concerned to award befitting punishment to Bhanu for her involvement in the crime.
The All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) has strongly condemned the rape of a 21 -year-old Manipuri girl in Delhi on December 29 night and urged the authority concerned to give befitting punishment to the rapists, according to a statement issued by the general secretary of AMAWOVA.
