Imphal, December 07:
The 22nd archives week celebrations, organized by the Manipur State Archives, commenced today at the Manipur State Library and Archives located at Keisampat.
A week long records exhibition also commenced at the same venue as part of the Archives Week celebrations.
The Governor of Manipur, Ved Prakash Marwah, who inaugurated the celebrations, observed that the identity of Manipur has been made known by its people who had dedicated themselves to developing and preserving their age old traditions and cultures.
He said the Manipuris had much to be proud of in their historical achievements.
While stressing the importance of archives in maintaining an accurate and unmodified record of history, the Governor said the government was facing multiple problems, particularly on the financial front, and hence was unable to provide any awards or incentives for those working in the field of archives.
He said that once elections are held and a popular government returns, he would be able to pay more attention to the state archives.
