Following the verdict of the Supreme Court dated October 19 last year, the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has today constituted a sub-committee for carrying out the Court's directives.
The apex court in its verdict has asked the Commission to constitute a sub-committee to assess whether the arresting authorities in the State have followed its guidelines asking the arresting authorities not to keep arrested persons in custody for more than 24 hours.
The Action Taken Report of the sub-committee should be submitted before the court within three months, the verdict added.
The sub-committee is being headed by MHRC chairperson Justice SN Bhargava.
The other members include the rights panel members L Rabindra Singh, Yambem Laba and Kh Chonjon Singh.
