Olympians feted

Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India has today felicitated Tokyo Games 2020 silver medallist (weightlifting) Saikhom Mirabai and bronze medallist (men's hockey) Nilakanta Sharma at their respective residences today.
A press statement issued by Branch Manager of LIC of India, Imphal Branch said LIC of India feted the players following its decision to felicitate medallists and fourth position holder athletes in recognition of the highly commendable performance they produced at the Tokyo Games.
Saikhom Mirabai was honoured with a cash reward of Rs 50 lakh and a shawl while Nilakanta was given a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh and a shawl, the statement said.
Sushila, who was among the fourth placed Indian women's hockey team, was not available for felicitation and thus will be honoured later, it said.
The cash rewards were presented to the Olympic medallists by Mriganka Ghora, Sr Divisional Manager, Silchar Division (comprising the States of Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram and Barak Valley of Assam) who also lauded the performances and achievements of the athletes, the statement said.
Mriganka Ghora also exhorted the players to continue striving for higher goals, it continued.
Other officers, L Lhouvum, BM, LIC, Imphal; L Lhungdim, BM, LIC, CAB; S Sarat Singh, ABM (S), Imphal Branch and Kh Suchitra Devi, Asst Manager were also present on the occasion, the statement added.
