College teachers study ILP issue, stir goes on

A one day academic discussion on the issue of Inner Line Permit System was held today at Manipur College, Singjamei, Imphal under the aegis of the All Manipur College Teacher's Association (AMCTA) .
The event was graced by Dr Kh Jayentakumar Singh, Principal, Manipur College and M Lokendro Singh, president, AMCTA as chief guest and president respectively.
Chief guest Kh Jayentakumar in his inaugural speech highlighted the economic viewpoint of ILP while Lokendro expressed the need of academic contribution to ILPS.
Recalling the AMCTA's contribution of Manipur Fact File which was published in 2001, the president stressed on the need to frame an ILP policy concerning the State.
In the academic session of the event, moderator Professor Ksh Bimola expressed the need for examination of ILPS issue by a team of experts.
Professor Arambam Lokendra highlighted the root of ILP in India with special reference to Manipur.
RK Itocha Singh also commented on the mechanism of ILP implementation in Manipur on trial basis.
Professor S Benjamin Nattar highlighted the constitutional implications of ILP in the academic session.
He suggested the possibility of amending the constitution for the protection of indegenious people's rights and framing of North East ILP policy in the larger interest of the region.
The academic session concluded with the recommendation to support the decision of the State Cabinet regarding the introduction of ILP in the State as well as the resolution of Manipur State Assembly to urge the Centre for extending ILP provision in the State.
It further encouraged the formation of Expert's Committee to work out the mechanism for the implementation of ILPS in the State.
Meanwhile, the Apunba Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup (AMMIK), joining the ILPS stir, staged a sit-in-protest today demanding implementation of ILPS in the State.
Singers, songwriters and instrumentalists of AMMIK joined the protest demonstration.
The organisation futher hosted a discussion session in continuation of the protest.
