Ahead of LS polls, Meira Paibis put spotlight on NRC, ST demand

As the Lok Sabha elections 2024 draws closer, Meira Paibi organisations of the State have once again raised their demands for implementation of NRC in Manipur and inclusion of Meitei/Meetei community in the ST list of the Indian Constitution.
Speaking in this connection, representatives of Nambol Khabi Apunba Chanura Marup, Nambol Thangtek Apunba Meira Paibi and Konthoujam Kangjeibung Chaokhat Lup declared that their votes will go to the candidate/political party who will raise these two demands at the Parliament.
Ch Taruni, secretary, Nambol Khabi Apunba Chanura Marup stressed on the need to implement NRC in Manipur in order to identify illegal immigrants and deport them to their respective countries.
Meanwhile, Maisnam Ibecha, president, Nambol Thangtek Apuba Meira Paibi, spoke on the plight of the Meitei community who occupy only 8 per cent of the total land area of Manipur.
She added that inclusion of the Meitei/Meetei community in the ST list will ensure the preservation and protection of the community's land, culture and identity apart from uplifting the people.
The Meira Paibi leaders asserted that they will refrain from backing any candidate or political party who does not list these two demands in their election manifesto.
