Imphal, January 30 2017:
Taking strong exception to the killing of two workers in a firing allegedly between two groups under SoO pact at Moulsohoi village in Ukhrul district on January 28, Loumi Sinmi Apunba Lup, Workers' Union Manipur and Kanglei Economic Development Organisation (KEDO) have cautioned that Manipur would be in a state of disarray if workers start revolting against such heinous act of SoO groups.
Addressing a press conference here at Manipur Press Club today, president of Workers' Union Manipur, K London said that abduction and killing of workers by Kuki armed groups under SoO pact for ransom have been continuing for the last many years.
He demanded the State Government to take up effective measures to stop such kind of inhuman acts against workers by SoO groups otherwise the State would suffer as a whole if workers' organisations resort to launch different form of intense agitation.
He said that Kuki civil society organisations should immediately intervene into the rampant atrocities meted out to workers by Kuki armed groups.
Sharing the sorrow of the aggrieved families of the two deceased workers, London said that workers' organisations will support any steps taken up to seek justice.
General secretary of Loumi Sinmi Apunba Lup, Maibam Sunil who attended the press conference lamented on the lack of intervention from civil society organisations in the series of atrocities committed against workers in the State.
He added that a sit-in-protest demonstration will be organised at Khwairamband Keithel soon in protest against the killing of the two workers.
