The villagers identified the arrested duo as Onkholun (37) s/o Thangneh and Khawmkhogin (35) s/o Thangneh of Tuilaphai.
Though they were arrested two days back, their whereabouts remained unknown as inqueries made by village elders and CSOs drew no credible information, they claimed.
The chiefs association of Songpi area and Tuila area covering over 40 villages took up the protest today as Churachandpur police too had not received custody of the two.
The protest which started as a bandh took a new twist as they headed to P Sezol village where an AR unit was stationed.
The protestors on arriving at the AR post stormed the barracks and destroyed several gates and chairs at the outpost.
Sources said, the protesters made their way into the AR barracks looking for the villagers in their custody despite the AR personnel firing several rounds in the air.
Later in the evening it is learnt that the villagers managed to get assurance that the arrested men will be released.
Another source said the men arrested include another individual identified as Thangtinlal @ RK Simte.
All three have been released and the public from the area organised a reception at KKL Complex at about 7.30 pm .
