Imphal, March 29 2012:
Some gun wielding men, dressed in Khakhi have beaten up a farmer on charge of having links with UG elements last night at Sagolmang Wakhong under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East.
The farmer who was battered by the suspected uniformed personnel is identified as Konthoujam Joy Meitei (47) .
Talking to reporters today at the Manipur Press Club, Joy said that a team of uniformed men came to his house last night.
As he opened the door, the men entered the house.
The men searched every nook and corner of his bedroom.
When they did not find any objectionable item in the room, they told him to come out with them.
When he was at the corridor, a masked man among the uniformed men had asked him to come down in the courtyard.
His brother had persuaded Joy not to follow them.
But he followed their command only to be beaten up the next moment.
He was thrashed with the butts of the guns and even kicked by the men in khakhis, Joy alleged.
When the family members and local people swarmed up the place, the men told him to come to Sekmai Police Station the next morning at 8am and left him.
However, Joy could not go to Sekmai Police Station today as he went to JNIMS for treatment.
He said that he had submitted a written complaint to the SP of Imphal East informing the matter.
