Candlelight vigil against CAA at MU

Students of Manipur University took out a candle light vigil in support of the protest across the North East region against the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, today evening.
The protest was organized by six student organizations namely, AIMMS, AMSU, DESAM, KSA, MSF and SUK and supported by Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) .
A large number of university students gathered at the traffic island located inside the university campus and began a march towards the main entrance gate holding candles, banners and placards embossed with slogans like 'Northeast States are not dumping grounds', 'Yes to ILP and No to CAA', 'India is the first country to kill it own people for the sake of illegal immigrants', 'Save Indigenous Rights', 'Save North East from CAA' and others.

The students also shouted slogans against CAA.
They came out from the campus and staged a protest demonstration on the road for more than 10 minutes.
Later, they placed the candles at the traffic point in front of the university's entrance gate and returned inside the campus.
A team of police led by the SDPO of Singjamei police station was also present at the protest site to prevent any untoward incidents.
Speaking to media persons, one of the students said that the protest was held to show that the CAA should not be implemented, not only in Manipur, but in the entire North East States The candle light vigil shows solidarity towards those who have sacrificed their lives to protect their community from the Act, he said adding that there is a fear among the people of indigenous communities that they might be wiped out due to CAA.
