As such movement of transport vehicles has been considerably restricted and many vehicles are forced to queue up and form a long chain of nearly 2-3 kms, they said.
With transport vehicles at times taking nearly an hour to cover a distance of 100 metres, JCBs are being utilized to push vehicles which are stuck midway in the pool of mud, they added.
One of the drivers maintained that the condition in between Nungdolan and Barak Bridge has gone from bad to worse apart from the stretches along Khongsang to Irang, Kambiron area, Makru area, Shanti Khunou area, Gularthol to Leingangching stretch.
The National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has been working diligently to alleviate the hardships faced by commuters along these stretches by laying crushed stones but without much significant improvement, the drivers said.
The shabby road condition has also badly hit the conveyance of FCI rice and Agriculture Department's fertilizers, the drivers said while noting that the transportation of all essential commodities along the road may be completely stopped in the event NHIDCL discontinues road repairing work.
