Many demand inquiry, compensation for death of two Thoubal residents; condemn prohibitory orders

Many bodies across the State continued to condemn the recent orders issued by Registrar, Manipur University and Secretary, Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat prohibiting entry of people from Thoubal to various Departments and Manipur University.
Manipur University has however withdrawn the prohibitory order yesterday.
DESAM Thoubal District Council during a press meet convened in connection with the orders today at Royal Academy, Wangjing vehemently condemned issuance of such orders by authorities and said the orders are unjust and discriminatory to the people of Thoubal.
Condoling the demise of two persons from the district after they were denied treatments at hospitals in Imphal, president in-charge of DESAM Thoubal District Council, Devo Laishram has stated that such response from hospitals and health professionals were unanticipated.
He also demanded that the Government should build COVID-19 hospital if discriminatory attitude towards the Thoubal district has to continue.
Those who had issued the orders should publicly apologise for forcing the Thoubal people to go through complexities and face discrimination, he said.
The Government should be held responsible for any ill consequences arising out of rampant discrimination and unfair treatments, he said while praying that the fateful incidents where two Thoubal residents lost their lives, do not repeat in the future.
Other executive members of DESAM Thoubal District Council were also present during the meet.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad condoles
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Manipur, in a statement, also condoled the death of two persons who were in need of emergency treatments but were denied on the ground that they were from Thoubal district.
Local transmission of COVID-19 is evident in the Thoubal district but how will doctor-patient relation will get better if doctors, who are considered akin to God, start refusing treatments to patients, asked ABVP.
The doctors should immediately desist such an impartial attitude when the State is reeling under immense pressure due to COVID-19 outbreak, the student body said while appealing the State Government to initiate legal procedures into the matter.
The student body will never remain silent if such ugly incident happen again in the coming days, it said while expressing fear that more people will die not because of COVID-19 but due to other ailments if the trend continues.
Educational Guide Centre (ECG), Thoubal Moijing, meanwhile, stated that COVID-19 outbreak is not a localised issued and thus the discriminatory orders should be revoked at the earliest.
The reason for local transmission of COVID-19 is due to Government failure in conducting timely tests and due to failure in fully enforcing SOP and other precautionary measures, alleged EGC in a statement.
Stating that the recent death cases of two Thoubal residents were unfortunate, EGC demanded that compensations be paid to the bereaved family members and a special hospital be built within the district for treating emergency cases.
Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO), Thoubal Moijing Branch also condemned the acts of health professionals which led to the demise of two Thoubal residents.
Appealing doctors to discharge their duties without discrimination, MMWO also appealed the State Government to conducted mass testing in containment announced areas and impose a strict SOP to prevent further transmission.
Police personnel only, wont be able to control the situation and thus public should fully cooperate, the statement continued.
