CorCom salutes Haipou Jadonang

The Coordination Committee of KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (Pro), RPF and UNLF has given its revolutionary salute to Zeliangrong leader Haipou Jadonang ahead of his 82nd death anniversary to be observed on August 29 .
According to a statement of CorCom, Jadonang was a valiant leader from Zeliangrong community who fought against the British rulers.
He was born to Thiudai Malangmei and Tabonliu as their third and youngest son in the year 1905 at Kambiron Village in Tamenglong.
He was hanged to death by the British rulers on August 29, 1931.He was a great leader who had strived to preserve the age-old culture and traditions of Zeliangrong Community.
He tried to liberate his people from the clutches of British and carried out some activities successfully against the British.
He started organising his people to put up opposition against the British.
The Political Agent of Manipur State, J.C.Higgins finally succeeded in arresting him (Jadonang) on February 19, 1931 at Cachar.
On March 29, 1931, he was brought to Imphal and confined him in the worst room of Imphal Jail, while prosecution against him and some of his followers was going on at the court of the Manipur Political Agent.
He was finally hanged till death by the order of the British Government on the banks of Nambul River leaving behind a legacy of struggle, CorCom said.
The CorCom further appealed to all communities to have unity and harmony among themselves to carry forward the movements once started by great leaders like Haipou Jadonang in Manipur.
