SBI goes green with 'Green Channel'

In line with the global trend of going green and to promote environment, the State Bank of India (SBI) has launched its 'Green Channel' counter in Manipur.
The new banking system also known as 'Green Banking' lets the customers to deposit, withdraw money and transfer fund from their respective accounts without using any kind of papers like draw cheques or pay-in-slips.
S Dey Sikder, chief manager of SBI Paona Bazar Imphal said that the bank recently launched Green Channel counters to cut down usage of papers, which are derived from trees and grass.
At the Paona bazar branch of SBI which he is heading, the customers have been enjoying the paperless money transaction at the newly set up 'Green Channel counter' within the bank premises since the last few days.

"They ( customers ) are happy with the new green banking system as they don't need to stand in long queue in depositing and withdrawing their money," Sikdar said adding that the congestion of customers at the ATM counters in Manipur will also ease with the launching of the new system.
"Green Channel counter has three modes of transactions � cash deposits, cash withdrawals and fund transfers and the transaction amount has been fixed at Rs 40, 000," he said.
An SBI customer has to swipe his or her ATM / debit card through the palm-sized device and get the money from the counter operator within the bank premises.
The same process is involved in depositing money.
"I was unaware of this easy, eco-friendly and time-saving transaction system.
It has come as a pleasant development to learn that SBI has joined the greener world campaign," said a client.
