The president of The Cultural Forum Manipur, Huirem Bihari has opined that if the writers/authors of Manipur, send a copy each of their literary works to the National Library, it will be far more easier and convenient to search for the books and literature at times of need.
He made the statement during the book release function of 'Khomjinba Leelashing Anisuba Saruk', written by renowned writer Athokpam Tomchou.
The event was organised at the residence of Athokpam Tomchou at Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai today.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Bihari stressed on the importance of the authors to publish or complete the scripts which they have at hand.
He continued that inability to find the literary works of famous authors and writers, is often a major issue and to solve this, the writers/authors need to send a copy of their works to the National Library.
He explained that a special Librarian is appointed at the National Library in Kolkata, for the books written in each of the languages which are covered by the Eight Schedule of the Constitution.
As Manipur does not have a separate section with its own designated Librarian, it is often a daunting task to search for the literary works written in Manipur, he added.
He also expressed desire for the Government to appoint a Librarian in the Library.
On the other hand, speaking about Athokpam Tomchou, Bihari said that Tomchou is famous in the area of dramatic literature.
He was even awarded Lifetime Achievement Award by The Cultural Forum Manipur for his works, Bihari informed adding that many of Tomchou's works are often based in social reality.
Speaking on the occasion, Manipur University Department of Manipuri Head Rajen Toijamba lauded Athokpam Tomchou for his immense contributions to Manipur dramatic literature.
Renowned critic RK Bidur, National awardee, was also present at the event as well.
