MDAVO organises 1-day discussion

Imphal, January 27 2015:
Mapithel Dam Affected Villages Organization (MDAVO) organized a one-day Public Discussion Programme at Chadong Village on the situation in the villages affected by the construction of Mapithel Dam on Tuesday.
In a press note, MDAVO secretary Sakathan informed that the increase in the water level was leading to inundation of farmlands impacting on the future of villages nearby whose inhabitants were yet to be resettled and rehabilitated.
MDAVO said the one-day discussion brought together several organisations from the hills and valley together.
Representatives from Tangkhul Naga Long, All Tribal Students Union Manipur, Tangkhul Shanao Long, Naga Women Union, Committee on Human Rights, and All Manipur United Club Organization and Indigenous Perspectives etc took part in the day long discussion.
Based on the discussion, it was resolved to press for halting the construction activities immediately until amicable solution was inked failing which the organizations decided to launch non-cooperation movement.
The discussion also asked the government to open the blockade of Thoubal River immediately and stressed on the need to review the dam in its totality.
