Imphal, November 26 2013:
The proscribed UNLF has claimed responsibility for the Keishampat bomb attack of November 25 which killed one Assam Rifles man yesterday.
A press release issued by the outfit's publicity officer M SakHen said that the bomb attack was carried out by a small demolition squad of MPA's urban guerrilla warfare team.
The AR team was deliberately targeted for unleashing violence and killing civilians in the name of counter insurgency operations.
Had civilians paid heed to UNLF's repeated appeals to stay away from Indian military personnel, at least three AR personnel could have been slain.
However, with the outfit more concerned for the lives of civilians, only one AR personnel was killed.
The demolition squad encountered many difficulties waiting for the opportune moment as many civilians were near the AR personnel yesterday.
It once again appealed to all the people not to mix with security personnel but stay away from them as far as possible.
UNLF/MPA has been keeping a close vigil on the movement of Indian military personnel so as to attack them at the first available opportunity.
It further conveyed regret for the civilian who lost consciousness for some moments under the impact of the bomb blast.
