Death of IRB Rifleman : Many demand thorough probe

Expres-sing strong suspicion of foul play on the death of IRB personnel Apuna Kamei at Sanjenbam Police Outpost yesterday, many CSOs, including Kabui Union Manipur, Kabui Mothers' Association, Zeliangrong Union, Rongmei Naga Council and Rongmei Lu Phuam have demanded speedy justice for the victim.
Apuna Kamei (36) who was posted at Sanjenbam police outpost as an IRB personnel (attached to Manipur Police Commando) was allegedly found dead inside the kitchen of the said police outpost yesterday.
While a JAC has been formed in connection with the incident today after the CSOs of Kabui, Rongmei and Zeliangrong communities and locals of Moirangkhom Kabui Khul where the victim Apuna Kamei was residing held a meeting, a sit-in protest was also staged in front of Moirangkhom Kabui Khul today.
Placards which read as "Justice delayed is Justice denied", "Punish the culprits", "Cold blooded murder � Life Sentence" and "Bring Justice for Apuna Kamei" were used in the sit-in-protest which was participated by the leaders of Kabui Mothers' Association (KAMA), Kabui Union Manipur (KUM), Zeliang-rong Union (Assam, Mani- pur, Nagaland), Rongmei Lu Phuam (RLP), and Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur Valley and locals.
Speaking to the media, JAC convener Meibon Phaomei expressed strong suspicion that there might be foul play behind the death of Apuna Kamei.
He alleged that there were reports of Apuna Kamei being killed by the service revolver possessed by one SI Yumnam Nonglakpa alias Pari after they returned from duty yesterday.
Further decrying that the information about the death of Apuna Kamei was given to his family very late by the authorities concerned, the JAC convener said that the corpse of the IRB Rifleman will not be claimed until an agreement is reached between the JAC and the Government.
While denouncing the incident, Kabui Mothers' Association general secretary Ranjita Golmei said that the JAC and the CSOs will continue with different forms of agitation until justice is delivered.
She demanded that a fair and thorough investigation so that the wrongdoers can be awarded befitting punishment.
