Cabinet discusses policy for legalising marijuana cultivation

The State Cabinet today discussed preparation of a policy to legalise marijuana cultivation as well as to increase the excise duty on foreign liquor which are brought in for the armed forces.
Speaking to media persons, State Government spokesperson and Education Minister Th Radheshyam said that the Cabinet meeting held at the CM Cabinet hall today morning, was presided by the Chief Minister and ways to frame a policy for legalising the cultivation of marijuana were discussed during the meeting.
It was resolved to convene another meeting at a later point of time after collect necessary feedbacks from the people, he explained, adding that the Cabinet also decided to double the excise duty on the Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) bought into the State for the Assam Rifles, army, paramilitary forces and police.

The Minister explained that earlier, the State Government received around Rs 9 crore per year as tax from these foreign liquors but now, the income will be increased to around Rs 23 crore per year.
The Education Minister continued that the Cabinet also decided to implement the 6th Pay for the aided school teachers of the State.
The Cabinet also decided to upgrade Senapati Aided Junior High School to a full fledged High School, he said.
The Minister further informed that the Cabinet resolved to lease an area of two acres at Lamphelpat for a period of 50 years for establishing Narcotics Control Bureau and NIA offices.
He conveyed that the Cabinet also approved appointment of half of the 1400 vacant posts under the Tribal Affairs, apart from discussing ways to increase the honorarium of ADC Chairpersons, Vice-Chairmen, Members as well as Zilla Parishad Chairpersons, Pradhan and Members.
The final decision will be taken in the next meeting, he added.
