Imphal, August 26 2015:
After it was told that it would take more than 10 days to fully repair the landslide affected Phesama, Nagaland portion of Imphal-Dimapur highway, oil tankers stranded at Dimapur have started moving towards Jiribam today.
Till yesterday, oil tankers were indecisive whether they should move towards Jiribam or stay put at Dimapur after Barak Bridge broke down yesterday.
Based on the speculation that it would take lesser time to repair the Barak Bridge as compared to repairing the landslide affected section of Imphal-Dimapur highway, oil tankers stranded at Dimapur started moving towards Jiribam this morning.
According to information received from IOC's Chingmeirong depot, around 30 oil tankers have started moving towards Jiribam from Dimapur.
Some other oil tankers started moving towards Jiribam yesterday after being loaded with petroleum products at Tinsukia.
Once the Barak Bridge is repaired, a convoy of empty tankers would leave Imphal for Jiribam with security escorts.
Some of these empty tankers would be loaded with petrol at Silchar and they would be escorted back to Imphal together with loaded oil tankers which arrive at Jiribam from Dimapur.
A special arrangement has been made for loading some tankers with petrol at Silchar, informed the source.
IOC has also written to the Additional Chief Secretary (Works) to urge the BRO to expedite the highway restoration work currently uderway at Phesama.
