Imphal, March 26 2025:
The Rongmei Naga People's Organisation (RNPO) has called for a careful approach to the delimitation process in Manipur and three other North East States.
RNPO, in a statement issued by its president Sangamlung Kamei, expressed desire for the authorities to first implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and update voter IDs linked with Aadhaar before proceeding with delimitation.
This request comes after the Supreme Court ordered the completion of the delimitation process in Manipur, Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh within three months.
RNPO, however, said that it welcomes the verdict of the Supreme Court on delimitation.
The Organisation urged both the Central and the State Government (now placed under suspended animation) to reorganize district boundaries before proceeding with the proposed delimitation.
Further, RNPO said that they oppose the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border.
There should be no border fencing in the Naga inhabited area where Naga families live in close proximity, it said.
