AMWJU decries detention and assault of AJWJU's Gen Sec by 22 Assam Rifles troops

Imphal, March 26 2012: All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) has condemned the detention and assault of general secretary of All Jiribam Working Journalists' Union, Y Sanjit alias Thoiba by troops of 22 Assam Rifles.

Casting aspersions, threatening and mocking a working journalist is tantamount to insulting the media, said a press release issued by AMWJU president A Mobi.

He added that AMWJU would extend its cooperation in initiating legal action if any journalist is found involved in illegal issues.

A Mobi also cautioned not to gag the scribes by threatening them.

He also urged all concerned not to repeat such unwanted acts in future.
