Imphal, November 25 2019:
The Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) has resolved to stay away from all protest movements spearheaded by COCOMI temporarily until COCOMI comes out with an unambiguous decision on Manipur Sangai Festival 2019 .
Speaking to media persons at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak this evening, TUC president Pratap Leishangthem said it is a matter of grave concern that COCOMI, after holding a meeting with the Chief Minister on Saturday, purportedly decided to withdraw its decision of boycotting the Manipur Sangai Festival, only to reverse the same decision the next moment yesterday.
There was no harm when COCOMI talked with the Chief Minister.
People of Thangmeiband would not say anything whether COCOMI and the State Government come to an understanding or not but all the developments should be informed to the public clearly, Pratap asserted.
COCOMI's announcement that the boycott of Sangai festival is still in force after resolutions about lifting the boycott were circulated in social media has confused all the people, he remarked.
It is not desirable for COCOMI to assume the masses as fools.
Rather it would be wise on the part of COCOMI to tender apology to the public, he asserted.
All the people including the people of Thangmeiband took part in the protest movements spearheaded by COCOMI but now a large section of people have openly declared they should not be called to any future agitation spearheaded by COCOMI, Pratap said.
This has compelled the TUC to take a decision on the matter.
Nonetheless, if COCOMI comes out with a convincing clarification, TUC would be quite happy to join any agitation spearheaded by the committee, Pratap said.
This does not mean TUC would shy away from the key issues of the State.
Rather, TUC would do everything within its capacity to protect the integrity and identity of Manipur, he added.
