Imphal, October 25 2019:
Khurai Lamlong Keithel Potfam Fambi Apunba Nupi Lup staged an alert sit in protest at the Keithel today cautioning against any impact to the integrity of Manipur as a result of the Naga peace talks.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit in protest, COCOMI assistant coordinator Longjam Ratankumar said that the situation has reached a critical stage as a possible end to the long drawn out peace talk between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) is nearing.
If the Framework Agreement contains any point which will harm the interest of Manipur, the people of Manipur will never accept it, he said.
He continued that the people of Manipur are in an apprehensive state and appealed to all the communities to take a united stand if anyone or any force tries to harm the State in any way.
Appealing all to fight for the future of the State and the indigenous people, he said that COCOMI will always stand with the people till the end.
On the other hand, one of the women vendors stated that the people of Manipur are strongly against any attempt to destroy Manipur and asserted that the people are not fools.
The people are at their limits now as the peace talk between the NSCN (IM) and the Centre has been causing all sorts of problems for the people, she lamented, warning both the Centre and the outfit that an even more dangerous outburst than the June 18 incident of 2001 will follow suit if they ever try to harm the State's interest.
Similar sit ins were also staged at Kwakeithel Moirangpurel Leikai, Pungdongbam, Langthabal Khoupum, Sanakeithel (BTRF Colony), Sana Janmasthan Club (Keishamthong Nambul Mapal) and Singjamei Chingamathak Nameirakpam Leikai as well.
On the other hand, Yelhoumee Kanba Apunba Lup (YKAL), Reformist Students' Front (RSF) and Manipur Friendship Organisation (MAFRO) have also warned against any impact to the unity and integrity of the State due to the Naga peace talks.
They also assured to offer full support to the people and COCOMI in the attempt to protect the State.
