Imphal, July 25 2013:
The Mapithel Dam Affected Villages Organisation (MDAVO) has vehemently opposed the announcement of SDO, Phungyar to take up House-hold verification drive at Chadong Village on July 29 and 30.In a statement the Organisation said verification will be the last chance for the villagers to be verified, according to the SDO.
MDAVO strongly condemned the move of the SDO as taking yet a last dart to completely shatter the High Court's stay order which was previously tramped by the DC, Ukhrul.
This is not the first time that the Organisation objects to the House-hold verification process for it supresses the rights and aspirations of the project affected villages as a whole.
Each time under militarization, the forceful verification have been carried out, it stated.
The release further said, such process has violated the High Court's stay order which was served on April 25 last.
As the DC, Ukhrul repeatedly said that it being a Govt servant has to work on the higher authorities order, MDAVO asked, "Is it really the duty of a Govt servant to supress the rights and aspirations of the ordinary citizens?" .
And if this move is democratic as claimed by the said DC time and again, "Is breaching of Court's order and creating social turmoil among the citizens still a democratic provision?", MDAVO asked in the press release and appealed all the right thinking citizens to unitedly counter such kind of suppression of poor tribal people's rights and violation of Judiciary order of the State.
