Tribal rights in line with Forest Rights Act deliberated

The Kuki Students' Organization Twibul Lhang (Kangchup and Leimakhong area) organized a one-day seminar on Land, Identity and Rights : The Tribals in Manipur (issues and challenges) yesterday at Kangchup Area Community Hall and resolved amongst others to protect and safeguard tribal rights and privileges in accordance with the Forest Rights Act, 2006 .
The seminar, according to the KSO Twibul, was led by experts and focused on the objective to be achieved in the coming days while also creating an opportunity to establish professional exchanges.
Ex-Member of Parliament Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, BD Behring Anal, ADC Sadar Hills Caretaker Chairman Haokholal Hangshing, and Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association Vice-Chairman Lunthang Haokip attended as resource persons in the seminar.
While BD Behring Anal spoke on tribal rights and challenges, Haokholal Hangshing spoke on ADC Acts and its functions and Lunthang Haokip spoke on chief rights and its impact.
A discussion hour was also held after the seminar where various queries from the participants were responded to and discussed.
The congregation also took various declarations and resolutions during the seminar.
It demanded the Government department concerned (Revenue Department) to let the Directorate of Settlement and Land Record transfer the land record of three sub-divisions, ie Kangpokpi, Saikul and Kangchup Geljang Block bifurcated from Saitu Gamphazol to the respective department/authority as per their office memorandum dated 15th June, 2013 .
It also declared and steadfastly resolved to protect and safeguard tribal rights and privileges in accordance with the Forest Rights Act, 2006 .
