DESAM extends wish on 'International Day Against Drug Abuse'

Imphal, June 25 2021:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) extended wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2021' .
In a press release issued today, DESAM said the current scenario of drug abuse in the State was already alarming with maximum people of the State using drugs in one form or the other.
DESAM expressed concern about whether it is the right time to raise a collective voice against drug abuse.
Supply reduction, demand reduction and harm reduction are the three main fronts that are to be used in fighting against the menace of drugs in the State, added DESAM in the release.
Supply reduction is to be ensured by the Government and the trustworthiness of the Government by the people.
Trust can only be achieved through its various work, added the release.
Demand reduction and Harm reduction are to be started from the public's end.
Education on the harmful effects of drugs should be imparted from the families onwards.
Parents should not forget they are the first teachers a child will have and it is for the best of all that education on drug abuse is imparted to them along with the importance of good food and need to keep oneself healthy and fit with exercises.
DESAM also expressed concern that Manipur is becoming a drug producing state from its early status of being a consumer state.
