JAC rebuffs rape allegation

Imphal, March 24 2017: JAC against the killing of Sapam Ranjit has condemned the framing of (L) Sapam Ranjit as a rapist.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, JAC co-convenor S Tondang said that Sapam Ranjit s/o S Iboyaima from Heingang Awang Leikai, was brutally murdered on March 21 .

He said that the JAC appealed to Chief Minister N Biren to catch the culprits within two days and as a result four individuals were nabbed quickly before the stipulated deadline.

Appreciating the quick response by the Chief Minister, he said that although Thoudem Tombinou, Soram Sanjoy and Akoijam Roshan were apprehended by the police in connection with the murder, the JAC cannot help but suspect that more individuals were involved in the brutal murder.

"The JAC submitted a six point memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding proper punishment for the accused individuals and urged the authority concerned to take up necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future to which he agreed", Tondang said.

He further said, "The CM assured us that the accused have been produced before the Court.

The JAC has also agreed to take the body of the deceased" .

The JAC has also appealed to the authority concerned to seize the weapons and vehicles used in the crime, he added.

Tondang said, "It is unfortunate that the victim has been framed as immoral.

The allegation that Ranjit was a rapist is totally false and baseless.

If indeed the victim had committed such a grave crime, then why didn't Tombinou force Ranjit to marry her daughter ? Why didn't Tombinou inform the locality about the alleged crime ?" .

Tayenjam Prema, adoptive mother of the victim said, "All allegations against Ranjit are false.

Ranjit was a well mannered boy.

Tombinou never complained about any wrongdoings by my son.

What crime did my son commit that he was brutally murdered?".

According to S Tondang, a JAC was also formed in Achanbingei to prevent any kind of tension between the two localities and curb such kinds of incidents from happening in the future.

The representatives of Achanbingei JAC were also present at the meet.
