Imphal, June 23 2013:
A local club of Keishamthong area has joined the opposition against the State Government's decision to convert Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary School into an all-girls higher secondary school.
President of Youth Club, Keishamthong, N Manglem said that the organisation would not allow the all-boys school to be changed into a girls' school.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today, N Manglem said that the local club would however welcome any step to change the school into a co-educational institute.
Alleging that the Government is concerned with the problem of TG Higher Secondary School alone, Manglem opined that it would not be possible to accomodate Class XI and XII students of Ramlal Paul HSS at Johnstone HSS as the school also is facing the same problem as in TG HSS.
He added that shifting of Class VI to X students of Ramlal Paul HSS to UJB schools at Keishamthong and Hodam Leirak mid way into academic year would derail the learning process of the students as these UJB schools do not have adequate number of teachers.
During past agitations, when attempts were made to burn down Ramlal Paul HSS on three different occasions, Manglem said, locals of Keishamthong area took active part in controlling the fire in all these three occasions.
Maintaining that Youth Club, Keishamthong would oppose the Government's move, N Manglem said that the organisation would not allow the admission process of girl students in the school to continue until it is changed into a co-educational institute.
Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary School Students' Union General Secretary Kishan Thiyam, who also took part in the press conference, also decried the State Government's decision.
