Students and teachers of Kakching Higher Secondary School on Wednesday staged sit-in protest against the failure of the authority concerned to intervene and reconstruct the school building which was damaged by the April 15 storm that swept across the State.
The students and the teachers have been facing lots of inconveniences in conducting classes as the rooftops of the school were blown away by the severe storm.
Speaking to the media persons during the protest at the school campus at Kakching Phousupat Leikai, general secretary of the students' union of the school, Moirangthem Nelson said that the severe storm on April 15 had swept away the rooftop of the school hall causing extensive damages to the school building including the laboratory, many classrooms and library room.
He continued that the Principal and Vice-Principal of the school had reported the damages to the Director of Education(S) on time following which the Additional Director personally assessed the situation and prepared a report.
However, no positive action has been taken up so far by the authorities concerned even after one month, he lamented and urged the Government and Department concerned to look into the matter and repair the school building at the earliest in the interest of the students and general public.
