Stringent measures had been put in place to increase the annual revenue of Forest Department to Rs 100 crore, said Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar.
Taking part in a felicitation function held in his honour at Yairipok Yambem in Andro AC this evening, Shyamkumar who also holds the portfolio of MAHUD, Town Planning and Horticulture & Soil Conservation informed that the annual revenue collected by Forest Department at present is only Rs 6-10 crore.
He said that effective measures have been taken up to conserve forests, make areas in and around lakes and river greener and safe from disturbances that affect ecosystem in the State.
As part of the measures, certain programmes to increase the rate of community afforestation have been chalked out, he maintained.
Encouraging planters of tree bean tree in Andro AC, the Minister announced that those who can grow at least five tree bean tree will be given Rs 500 per tree as part of an incentive programme to be launched in the constituency.
He also announced that saplings of tree bean tree will be provided free of cost and fund for producing black rice and organic manure will also be given.
However, organic farming should be adopted in the plantation, he reminded.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Biren have been giving more emphasis on organic farming.
Shyamkumar also declared that vending space for selling products produced by adopting organic farming will be provided at Sanjenthong.
Foundation stone for constructing quarters for accommodating doctors and paramedical staff of Yambem PHC will be laid soon.
For this, Ministry of Minority Affairs has given approval for sanctioning Rs 3.84 crore, he informed.
He also assured that measures for providing potable water across Andro AC will be taken up and construction of hall and girls hostel for Yambem Upper Primary School will also be started at the earliest.
