Categorically rejecting the claim of the police that Secretary Captain Oman of the PLA was killed in an encounter with the police on November 18 at Thongju Part II, Koirou Loukon, at about 3.30 pm, the outfit today asserted that he was killed in custody.
Giving a detailed account of the incident, publicity secretary of the outfit, T Leishemba in a statement said that on seeing the police commandos approaching, Oman proceeded towards the direction of the paddy fields, but he was stopped by the police commandos and shot dead.
The commandos were led by SI Bikram of Imphal West police.
The commandos pocketed one 9 mm pistol Glock HRA Austria Model No.170 one extra magazine, 30 bullets and a mobile handset which were issued to him, said the statement.
The allegations levelled by the police that he was planning to kill non-locals are baseless and without foundation, claimed RPF.
Saluting the departed soul, the outfit said that during his 18 years of service in the outfit, he had put in all his efforts to take the movement forward.
Giving a brief background on the life of Oman, RPF said that he was a sportsman who took part in the National Cycling Championship held at Ludhiana in 1984 under the club, Chingamathak Young Learners' Club.
He was also actively involved in many social clubs and organisations of the locality as well as with programmes conducted by students organisations like AMSU.
After primary schooling at Pishum JB School, he went for his higher studies at Singjamei Iboyaima Higher Secondary School, from where he passed his matric.
From there he went to Manipur College and later graduated in Physics in 1991 .
Captain Oman joined the PLA on February 8, 1993 and dedicated his life to a cause dear to his heart.
The statement also gave a detailed account of his works within the PLA set up in different capacities and added that he was first arrested on September 6, 1993 by the police and on being released after some time joined the party again.
He was again arrested on August 7, 1995 by 6 Bn CRPF and after taking a break for some time rejoined the party in May 1996 and went on to serve the outfit in different capacities.
The outfit also shared the grief and pain of the bereaved family members.
